Units and Reference Ranges / Interpretation
A patient is usually considered clear after two results where no spermatozoa are seen or if spermatozoa are present and immotile below <100,000/ml. Special clearance may be given by the clinician. Assessment of a single sample may be appropriate, provided there is strict adherence to instructions for production, delivery and time to examination. The laboratory will attempt to quantify and report the number of spermatozoa/ml. However due to the small numbers seen an accurate determination may be below the limit of detection for the test. The presence of motile spermatozoa will be reported, however motility will not be assessed.
