Test information: CHILDREN: Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) Diagnosis- may require HCG stimulation test to measure androstenedione: testosterone. CAH Monitoring- to reduce risk of virilisation in children. ADULTS: Useful in pregnant CAH patients as 17-HP becomes unreliable. Also useful in assessing ovarian & adrenal androgen secreting tumours. NOT indicated as a routine test for assessment of hirsutism or PCOS. HIGH in: PCOS, idiopathic hirsutism, ovarian/adrenal neoplasia, CAH and Cushings. (+ Spironolactone falsely high with analytical interference)
