Test information: Amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant. Tricyclic antidepressants possess a 3-ring molecular structure. They inhibit the neuronal reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin (5HT) in the CNS, and possess affinity for muscarinic and histamine H(1) receptors to varying degrees. Used to treat a wide range of disorders such as depression, panic disorder, social phobia, bulimia, narcolepsy, attention deficit disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, childhood enuresis, and chronic pain syndromes.
