Test information: Renal biopsies must be booked in advance by contacting the Histology lab on ext. 2576. Samples will be collected by a Histology BMS from the ward and transported in Hanks medium, which will be supplied by the Histology lab. Samples for Histology require a minimum of three patient identifiers (name, DOB, NHS/Hosp. number) on the request form to be accepted. The request form also needs to include the date/time the sample is taken, the specimen/clinical details, and the clinician/location details to return the report. The sample container must be labelled with at least two patient identifiers and specimen site, including right or left side of body where relevant

Patient Preparation, Sample Handling and Transport
Hanks Medium will be supplied by the Histology lab when contacted to collect the sample by the renal clinician. Tissue submitted for electron microscopy is sent to University Hospital Southampton for processing & the images are interpreted by a RCHT Histopathologist.
