Test information: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is divided into nine genotypes, A to I. The prevalence of specific genotypes varies geographically. Different genotypes may respond differently to anti-viral treatment. HBV genotyping may influence the severity of liver disease, disease progression and clinical outcome.

Availability: Referred to the Micropathology Ltd: Monday - Friday during routine hours: 08:45 - 17:15.

  • Minimum-clotting time 30 minutes.
  • Specimens should be transported to the laboratory as soon as possible.
  • Outside of normal hours samples should be refrigerated (2 °C to 8 °C).
  • Hepatitis B viral load required first.
