Test information: Determining the Hepatitis B viral load is important in the assessment of chronic Hepatitis B to understand the risk of disease activity, onwards transmission (particularly in pregnancy) and in monitoring response to therapy. It may also be needed in cases of "past resolved" Hepatitis B prior to receipt of immunosuppressant drugs to determine the risk of Hepatitis B reactivation.

Availability: Referred to the Micropathology Ltd: Monday - Friday during routine hours: 08:45 - 17:15.

<103 IU/mL is likely to be associated with disease resolution.
High levels may be present in carriers with no evidence of liver damage.
