CJD Testing (CSF RT-QuIC)

Alias: Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, CSF 14-3-3, S-100b

Test information: From April 2022 the Edinburgh CJD unit will only perform the RT-QuIC assay for the investigation of patients with suspected sporadic CJD. Previously they also performed CSF 14-3-3 and S100b. RT-QulC has a sensitivity approaching 95% and a specificity of 100%, and was introduced into revised European CJD surveillance Network diagnostic criteria for sCJD in 2017.

Patient Preparation, Sample Handling and Transport
Edinburgh CJD unit MUST be contacted (0131 537 1980) by the clinician prior to requesting/taking the sample. Samples will only be accepted by the unit post consultation and submission of their request form. Please promptly hand deliver sample to RCH Clinical Chemistry laboratory, and inform them of the ?CJD status.
