Patient Preparation, Sample Handling and Transport

Fresh as possible; parasites will start to deteriorate after a few hours affecting detection and identification of species. When there is a strong clinical suspicion of malaria or the initial films are negative, repeat films should be made and examined after 12-24 hour and again after a further 24 hours.
