Test information: This test is for the investigation of Primary (idiopathic) membranous nephropathy, with approximately 70% of patients having antibodies to M type PLA2R. Binding of the antibody to PLA2R can cause subepithelial immune complex deposition and complement activation which results in proteinuria and nephrotic syndrome.
